We see a great number of folks with headaches in our Singapore office, and Dr. Stakes has been able to aid many of them. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 50 percent of all adults struggle with some sort of headache problem, so this actually isn’t unexpected. One of the most typical types of headaches which our patients are afflicted by is cervicogenic headache which, fortunately, chiropractic can usually help.

What is a Cervicogenic Headache?

A cervicogenic headache is one that starts from problems in the cervical spine. It could be due to a problem with either the spine itself (specifically, the vertebrae, joints, or discs), or it can be attributable to a problem in the muscles and tendons of your neck. This dysfunction in your spine creates compaction or aggravation of the spinal nerves, which can contribute to headache pain.

How can you find out if the headache you are suffering from is a cervicogenic headache? Aside from receiving a diagnosis from a healthcare specialist, a common symptom of cervicogenic headaches is tenderness or pain in your neck. This is sometimes coupled with pain in the back of your head or between your shoulder blades.

Chiropractic to the Rescue

Because cervicogenic headaches will not go away until whatever problem is triggering them is corrected, it is critical to get treatment instead of just trying to "wait it out." Chiropractic care is an effective solution, and one that offers a considerable amount of headache pain relief.

In one study reported in Chiropractic & Osteopathy, specialists studied 80 people who had recurring cervicogenic headaches. Fifty percent received chiropractic care and the other fifty percent underwent light massage therapy. Each participant was evaluated 12 and 24 weeks after the treatment and it was found that chiropractic provided the best outcomes.

Specifically, this study noted that chiropractic adjustments provided patients better pain relief and decreased the frequency of headaches that occurred. What's more, it also minimized the disability that resulted from these painful headaches.
